In the Bay Area alone, there are over 2.6 million acres of farmland within the local greenbelt, a surprising and monumental figure in such a densely-populated area. It’s also a vital part of our global food system, thanks to the abundance of rich, fertile land that supports an incredible diversity of crops enjoyed by so many. According to California Ag Today, California alone is the world’s fifth largest food, cotton, and other agricultural commodities producer and is the sole producer of 99% of specialty crops in the United States. Given how much is grown within the bounds of the Golden State, it is no surprise to find farms located in every corner, even on the stunning coastline!
