Dairies along the California Coast from Monterey to Big Sur were made famous for their production of Jack cheese, and Stepladder hope to honor this tradition in their rendition. Made with fresh cow's milk and aged for at least 60 days in caves, LumberJack is the perfect everyday eater or melting cheese. The flavor is savory more than sweet with a distinct nuttiness on the rich finish so we like to pair this cheese with tart, crisp apples, or a light beer. Stepladder Ranch & Creamery is a farmstead creamery located on California's Central Coast that produces small-batch, award-winning cheese. Owned and operated by husband & wife team Jack and Michelle Rudolph, this unique farmstead creamery raises goats on the farm & makes cheese from their milk, enabling them to manage every aspect of Stepladder’s cheese production.

Jack first discovered his love for goats and cheesemaking while visiting a goat dairy in Northern California in high school. This passion led him to purchase his own goats and take over his grandfather's ranch operations to build the creamery. Michelle, with a background in event planning and wineries, met Jack during the inception of the creamery and has been managing the ranch alongside him ever since.

The Creamery is where all the magic happens. Inside the facility, there are four main areas for production: the milk house, the barn, packaging and cheesemaking. The creamery is run by a team of talented and passionate individuals who care for the animals, hand make artisan cheese, and share their stories & expertise with customers.
