My mom is the best cook ever. Coming from the Bakwa Bilonda Tribe in the Kasai Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, she inherited these recipes from my grandmother, who we called Mimi. In 1966 my mom refined this traditional African salsa that we call ‘pili pili’ or ‘ndunga.’

My mom will never eat without pili pili on her table. She carries a jar with her at all times. I’ve carried her recipe with me to America, where we cook small batches of sauce using her secret recipe. Pili pili is one of the hottest hot sauces that you’ll ever have the pleasure to eat.

My family inspires my cooking, and I am blessed to be able to share my food with the world.
