Obour Foods is a San Francisco-based producer of craft hummus and tahini. The company was founded in 2017 by Elliot Sharifi, a former analyst for HP who decided to turn his passion for homemade hummus and tahini into a full-fledged business. The name "Obour" is derived from the Farsi word for "passage" or "journey," a reference to Sharifi's career change from corporate finance to culinary entrepreneurship.

Sharifi's goal with Obour Foods is to create products that don't compromise on quality in any way. To achieve this, he uses a production facility in San Francisco's India Basin area to make small batches of hummus and tahini, using only the finest ingredients and avoiding stabilizer additives that are commonly used to extend shelf life. As a result, Obour Foods' products have a shorter shelf life than some other brands, but are of the highest quality.
